Un montaje BUTOH definido por la estática y trabajo gestual de la artista mexicana residente en el Canadá Salome Nieto - PATA SOLA DANCE

BUTOH DANZA - Camino al Tepeyac, es acerca de la devoción, el ritual y el mito. Es una metáfora de la convergencia entre dos creencias culturales y religiosas encontradas en una deidad femenina quien representa la vida y la muerte, el origen y el fin de todas las cosas. Los aztecas la llamaban Tonatnzin (Nuestra Madre Coatlicue), a partir de la conquista la encontramos en la Virgen de Guadalupe. Representante y Madre de los mexicanos en la fe católica.

Salome Nieto es conocida por sus interpretaciones cargadas de emoción, Salomé Nieto ha sido descrita como etérea, sugerente y encantadora por su público. Originaria de la Ciudad de México, Salome es fundadora y directora artística de pataSola dance en Vancouver, Canadá en donde ha trabajado como maestra, coreógrafa y directora artística desde 1992. Durante 2005-2010 trabajó como directora artístico de Continuum Dance Company, compañía residente de Shadbolt Centre for the Arts en donde es ahora directora del programa de danza de la misma institución, además de haber bailado prominente con la compañía Butoh Kokoro Dance desde 1993. Como mujer canadiense de origen mexicano emigrada a Vancouver, su búsqueda artística examina las intersecciones de su propia identidad cultural, su formación en danza moderna y su experiencia de veinte años como bailarina de Butoh.

A BUTOH piece defined by the aesthetics and the gestural work of Mexican artist resident in Canada ‎Salome Nieto – Pata Sola Dance Exploring the scope and depth of her Mexican culture and bringing her curiosity over its marvelous reality and surrealism as the starting point for this work, Vancouver’s Salomé Nieto uses religious iconography, beliefs and traditions as inspiration for this work, an investigation into the themes of devotion, ritual and myth. Camino al Tepeyac is a metaphor for the convergence of two cultural and religious beliefs in one female deity that is the origin and end of all things. The Aztecs called her Tonantzin (Our Mother Coatlicue) and after the conquest her name became Virgin of Guadalupe and the Mother of the Mexican people in the Catholic faith.
Renowned for her emotionally-charged performances, Salome Nieto has been described as ethereal, evocative and enchanting by her audiences. She is an independent choreographer, dancer and dance instructor based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally from Mexico City she has called Vancouver her home since 1992. She has danced prominently with Kokoro Dance Company since 1996. During 2005-2010 she worked as Artistic Director of Continuum Dance Company at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts where she is now the Fine and Performing Arts Programmer for Dance. As a Canadian woman of Mexican background having immigrated to Vancouver 21 years ago, Salome is considering the intersections of her own cultural identity, her modern dance training and her experience of Butoh. In order to invigorate her own voice as an artist, she is exploring issues of cultural identity in terms of how personal histories resonate with movement and how the essence of Butoh, spirituality and her own culture meet and integrate.
